Post Majors 2022
So that my friends is that …yes I know that the PGA season doesn’t conclude until the Tour Championship and the bestowing of the 10 million for the still trying to be relevant Fed Ex Cup winner but it always feels like the end when they end the Majors season. Do you ever remember anxiously awaiting the winner at East Lake ?? or does the winner automatically make you think of him now on a larger scale ……nahhhh….remember Bill Haas, Jim Furyk & Billy white pants all won the Fed ex …..nice piece of change for sure but I don’t give a shit.
I do give a shit about this years majors and what they mean on the world golf landscape, especially as the Saudi princes continue to throw fortunes on these already pampered pricks. Lets look back just 4 months……Scottie Sheffler soared to number 1 winning not one but a handful of events and then winning at Augusta. He held up his end of the bargain and ranking as the Summer progressed, no reason to think he'll go away anytime soon. JT backs up major number 1 and a long stretch of quality golf and wins number 2 in impressive fashion at the PGA, 15 wins already and seems like he's just getting started.
Dirk Diggler from down under won in Hawaii and then put on a masterful perfoamnce in TPC Sawgrass at the Players, all in preparation as the Champion golfer of the year; me thinks he has more big wins in him after putting on one of finest exhibitions with the flat stick as I e have ever seen over many years of watching golf. He's the guy you want with the game on the line right now. Lastly, young Fitz knocking quietly on the door for the last few years emerges at the Country Club as the major champion that many saw coming with his slow steady climb unlike the meteric rise of Sheff, this young Englishman has few holes in his game and as well should be a staple in the big arenas for years to come.
Four twenty somethings grabbing that own personal pieces of history. With the LIV tour fiasco at hand Im not sure how the majors will play out frm here…will DJ get another shot at one or douchebag Brooks whos always been bothered by us all breathng the same air, will he ever again be know as the big game hunter ( who btw missed 6 cuts this year so maybe that stretch a few years ago has crashed and burned ). Lastly, can't go without saying a word about Rory …..the good news is that Cam Smith was the best player and won it , Rory did not so to speak lose it, he just didn’t do enough to win it, flat stick be dammed …..I have determined that I like Rory ….I think he is great golfer and I hope he wins another major or two but most importantly, I think he carries himself well and has been a wonderful image for the Tour. He never dodges the press, puts thought into his answers and doesn’t just go through the motions like so many of his peers.
I have been and will always be a root for the American type of guy in any situation but if now mature Rory, he of the now husband and father role, gets himself near the winners circle again soon and if that circle shoud be a major stop then I have no problem in backing the young Irishmen …..
