Seventh Heaven

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. The thoughts and intent was to write about the unmatched passion and unrivaled ecstasy of winning a seventh game. Like the old Wide World of Sports opening on TV years ago; it really is all about the "thrill of victory " and the "agony of defeat".

Is anything better ????  I mean whether you are part time fan, full time fanatic or merely a proud supporter of your local team, the idea of being in a seventh game is the ultimate. With all due respect to the epic football playoff games, world cup soccer match,  a major championship tennis match or any other finale of a sporting venture ……..nothing beats a seventh game. I think it’s the buildup, the 2 week long slugfest with the same opponent that forms the base. Face it the one game thing just isn't around long enough to have any hatred grow. As the games go by and the 7th one looms in the distance, we cringe thinking of it. You start to know the other teams players by name, some take on the role of the villain, most all on the other team become despised.

Each game brings more pressure, more questions, more nail biting …..now we have to win on the road…they’ll never beat us at home …..we start coaching from our couches, the officials seem to be unfair and it all leads up to the big one. No place to run, no place to hide….we settling this things tonight. People that aren't really avid fans of the teams in play are even intrigued, networks love it and the fans live and die by it…….They are reveling in the streets of Sunrise Florida today or at least the 50 real hockey fans that are there are……..and they are moaning today throughout New England as they shake  heads in disbelief of an opportunity that slipped away…..there'll be more seventh game this postseason with some fans going home elated and some fans crushed again ; it's such great theatre, I just wish there was another showing tomorrow night.
